Terms of Service
The rules that govern your account and your use of this website, the member area and the FPA Alumni mobile app.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of this website and the FPA Alumni Association mobile app (together, "the Platform"), operated by the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti Alumni Association ("the Association", "we", "us", "our").
By creating an account or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
Eligibility and your account
- Membership accounts are intended for alumni of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti who can provide accurate academic details, namely department, programme, graduation set and matriculation number, for verification.
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- You must provide accurate, current information when you register, and keep it up to date.
- Your department, programme, graduation set, chapter and matriculation number are fixed at registration and can afterwards be changed only by an administrator, so that membership records stay accurate. Contact us if any of these is recorded incorrectly.
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account.
- You must notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
- You may hold only one membership account.
Account verification and approval
Registration is free. New accounts are reviewed by an administrator before member access is granted, and that review is the only requirement for access. No payment is needed to register or to be approved.
We may request additional information to confirm your identity and academic history. We may decline or revoke verification, giving reasons where practicable, if we cannot confirm your eligibility or if the information you provided is inaccurate or fraudulent.
Dues, fees and payments
All payments are made inside the FPA Alumni Association mobile app through its payment provider, not on this website. The website only displays the resulting payment status on your account.
There are three types of payment:
- Annual membership dues of ₦5,000 per calendar year.
- Alumni clearance fee, payable once by members who require a clearance certificate. The amount depends on your programme: ₦7,100 for ND and Part-Time, and ₦8,100 for HND. Each amount is made up of an alumni fee and an endowment fee, itemised before you pay.
- Donations, which are voluntary and may be made to any active Association cause in any amount you choose.
Further terms:
- You are responsible for the accuracy of any payment details you submit in the mobile app.
- Fee and dues amounts may change from time to time. We will communicate any change before it takes effect, and the amount shown in the app at the moment of payment is the amount that applies.
- Donations are voluntary and are not refundable.
- Dues and clearance payments are generally not refundable. Where a payment has been duplicated or taken in error, contact us using the details in Section 15 and we will investigate and refund where appropriate.
- Payments are processed by a third-party payment provider that charges the Association a transaction fee. This fee is borne by the Association and is not added to the amount you pay.
Alumni clearance certificate
When you pay the alumni clearance fee, the app generates a certificate pre-filled with your name, matriculation number and phone number, which you can download and print.
Please note what this does and does not mean. The certificate confirms that you have settled the alumni clearance fee with the Association. It is not, by itself, institutional clearance from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti. The remaining sections of the certificate are signed in person by the relevant departmental, bursary, library and other offices, and those sign-offs are made by the Polytechnic and not by the Association.
The Association is not responsible for the outcome or the timing of any clearance process conducted by the Polytechnic, and payment of the alumni clearance fee does not guarantee that clearance will be granted.
Your name and matriculation number are printed on the certificate exactly as they are recorded on your account. Check that they are correct before you pay, and contact us if they need to be amended.
The member directory
Once your membership is approved, your name, department, programme, graduation set, chapter, profile photo and any LinkedIn URL you have provided appear in the member directory. The directory is visible to signed-in verified members only, and is not visible to the public or to search engines. Your email address, phone number and date of birth are never shown in the directory.
You can change your name and profile photo from your profile at any time. The directory does not currently offer a way to hide individual fields or to opt out of listing altogether. If you have a concern about appearing in the directory, contact us using the details in Section 15.
Directory data is provided for legitimate alumni networking and Association purposes only. You agree not to scrape it, export it in bulk, or use directory information for unsolicited marketing, spam, or any purpose unrelated to the Association.
Elections
- Voting is open only to eligible verified members, for the duration of a published election window.
- Each member may cast one vote per position. Attempting to vote more than once, to impersonate another member, or otherwise to manipulate results is a breach of these Terms.
- Election results are certified and published by the Association on the basis of recorded votes.
- Votes are recorded against your member account so that duplicate voting can be prevented and results can be audited. Individual choices are never published and are never shared with candidates. See our Privacy Policy for what this means in practice.
Jobs, events and community content
Job postings, event listings, news and member spotlights are published or moderated by the Association.
If you submit a job application, an event RSVP or a message through the contact form, you are responsible for the accuracy of what you submit. We may remove any content or application that is false, abusive, or in breach of these Terms.
Job listings are posted by members and third parties. The Association does not verify listings, employers or applicants, and does not endorse any employer or vacancy. Any dealings that follow are between you and the other party.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Impersonate another person, or misrepresent your affiliation with the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to another member's account or to administrative areas of the Platform.
- Upload or transmit anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or that infringes another person's rights.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Platform, its servers or its underlying infrastructure.
- Use automated tools to scrape, harvest or bulk-extract data from the Platform.
- Submit false payment information, or attempt to obtain membership benefits, dues credit or a clearance certificate without paying the applicable amount.
Content you submit
You retain ownership of the content you submit, such as a profile photo, job application details or a contact message.
You grant the Association a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display and process that content solely as needed to operate the Platform and serve its purpose, for example to show your directory entry to other verified members, or to forward your application to the member who posted a job. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, except where we are required to retain records as set out in our Privacy Policy.
You confirm that you have the right to submit the content you upload, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
Suspension, termination and closing your account
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms, at our discretion, with or without notice where the severity of the breach warrants it. Where practicable we will tell you why, and you may contact us to appeal.
You may close your account at any time from Profile in the mobile app. Closing your account removes your profile, photo, directory entry, event RSVPs and notifications. Records of payments you have made are retained for the Association's accounting obligations with your name removed, as described in our Privacy Policy.
Closing your account does not entitle you to a refund of dues, clearance fees or donations already paid.
Third-party services
The Platform depends on third-party service providers, including Supabase for our database, authentication and hosting, Brevo for transactional email, Paystack for payment processing in the mobile app, and Expo for push notification delivery.
We are not responsible for outages or faults caused solely by those providers, although we work to keep the Platform reliable. See our Privacy Policy for how these providers handle your data.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or free from loss.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Association is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform, including any reliance on job listings, event details or directory information submitted by other members or third parties.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
General
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
If we do not enforce a provision on any occasion, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, form the entire agreement between you and the Association in relation to the Platform. You may not transfer your account or your rights under these Terms to anyone else.
Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms as the Platform evolves. We will update the "last updated" date at the top when we do, and we will communicate material changes to members through the Platform or by email. Continuing to use the Platform after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.
Governing law and contact
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Nigeria have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
Questions about these Terms can be sent to alumni@fedpolyado.edu.ng, submitted through our contact page, or posted to the Alumni Secretariat, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.
